Granny Squares

wow , does that get your fingers itching to crochet? I found it
here they're doing a granny square theme - how i'm not sure but could we do something the same? only thinking aloud , what do you think? we could each make a granny square for each team blog member , post them , we'd end up with seventeen squares each - stitch them together and we'd each have a piece of work made by the group . . . . like I say only thinking out loud . . . . it's an idea.

Edit on saturday 10th
we're thinking if we decided on a size then we could knit or crochet as long as it is the same size then they will all fasten together ok anyway.
For Eleanor and Patricia and any other none crocheting people here are two videos that show how to do a basic granny square :-)

  1. I wish I could remember how to crochet. It's a great idea. If only I could do it! I did some crochet when I was about 10 years old, since then, nothing. I tried to do some a couple of weeks ago but I couldn't even start!

  3. It's a great idea, I'm a rubbish crocheter though. I'd happily make something else for everyone if I could think what.

  4. Ooooh, look at all those yummy crocheted goodies :-)
Great idea. I'd love to do it. Small problem of lack of stash, but that could be sorted, eventually.
I'm sure there's a firm knitted stitch that could be used to create a square, which would work with crocheted squares. Does that make sense?

  6. yes it does make sense - so if we had a set size so whether crochet or knit they'd still fit together :)
for those of you who can't crochet here's a good start, Teresa the lady who does this video has over 400 tutorials on her stream now :)

  10. Can anybody tell me what hook size and yarn to use for learning to crochet, or doesn't it matter? I have a book that explains how to get started, so I'm going to get a hook next week and give it a go. :)

  11. Debs - I've got a crochet afghan book, and they recommend DK yarn and 4mm hook to get 6" squares, or 5mm hook and aran weight yarn to get 7.5" squares.
I used 4mm and aran yarn on my shrugs, and they came out lovely, and 5mm and DK yarn on scarves. !!!
    So, try 4mm or 5mm?
Did that help, or confuse more, LOL.
